There is NO OIL in South West Flordia! We are catching alot of big Snook. A fishing buddy of mine was out 140 to 180 miles this week and told me that the water is BEAUTIFUL, and the fishing is fantastic, nice grouper and red snapper. Closer in, Cobia and permit on the recks. Pompano, Tarpon, and Snook on the beaches. Inshore the Mackeral are ever where. Trout are in the grass, Reds in the mangroves. It's hot (just right) and the fish are laying out there with their mouth open looking up at the sky. This is a great time to be fishing! Let's go!!!

The North East wind has made for some really low tides for this time of year. However the fishing is good!
Lots of nice Trout on the flats. Popping cork with live shrimp is your best bait. Red Fish can also be caught with live shrimp along the deeper side of the islands, and along the mangroves that have some deeper water. Pompano are on the beach, and the Sheepshead bite is still good, using really dead shrimp.
Good luck and good fishing

Go away cold weather. This is too much! Fishing's good if you can pick a day that it ain't cold and windy. Sheepshead are around docks, piers and bridges. Live shrimp your best bait. Trout have moved into a little deeper water. You'll find some nice fish in the mouth of the canals and off the deep side of oyster bars. Popping cork with live shrimp is the best. Red Fish in the back of most of the bays, not too many and with tides we've had it's been tough fishing.
The weather will improve and the fishing will take off.
Good luck and Good Fishing

The warm weather has made it a lot better for fishing. The Trout fishing is still very good. Lots of short fish, but you will catch some real nice fish. A DOA shrimp and a popping cork works great, or a live shrimp.
Pinch the tail off and use a 1/8oz. jig head, hooked in the tail. Fish The oyster bars in Matlacha Pass, with some deeper water around them on in coming tide. Gault Is. has some nice fish, and some good fish around Chino. Red Fish are in skinny water. Bull Bay, Turtle Bay, and the back of Whidden Bay. Fish early on in coming water. Watch for tailers. Best bait, live shrimp with a split shot. Pinch the tail off hook shrimp in the tail. Sheepshead bite has improved a bunch. Try using those old dead shrimp that have turned yellow they stink but work great! Don't forget, if you need shrimp see my good friend Sal at the fish house at the end of Palm Av. or marker 12 ICW. If you are fishing Charlotte harbor, go by and see Capt. Ray at Fine Bait and Tackle on US 41 north of Lowe's.
Have a good week, good luck.

Trout,Trout,Trout, every where!! A blind Cave man could catch Trout right now. Alot of 12"-14" fish.
Our best Trout came on a Popping cork with a DOA shrimp, fishing the grass and in some of the creeks and canals where there was a little deeper water. We also saw some real nice Snook and caught four on a Zoom Fluke, trying to find some Reds. Caught some short Reds but no keepers.
Sheepshead bite has been a little slow. We did catch some nice fish using a 1/8oz jig head with a small piece of watermelon green grub and half a live shrimp. This is a deadly way to get them to bite!!
Have seen lots of small bait fish in the canals, so by spring there should be lots of bait.
The Deep Freeze has put a hurt on the Snook, but I feel they will bounce back in a year or so. Come fall I think catching big Trout will be the best we've seen in many years.
Fishing is great go catch 'em! Good luck and good fishing.

Mother Nature has delivered the worst Artic freeze that Southwest Florida has ever seen. The Deep Freeze has taken a devastating toll on the Snook, Tarpon, and Bone Fish population. Some estimate we have lost five years of Snook production. Good news warm weather is back and maybe we're on the road to recovery. This Artic blast however,, has not hurt the Seatrout, and Redfish. We caught some real nice trourt, and a few !6" to 19" reds, all on live shrimp. We found the reds around cuts where the in coming tide was washing through. The trout are in the sand holes and around the edges of oyster bars.
Sheepshead are under the docks, and along oyster bars. Live shrimp your best bait. If you need live shrimp, go by and see Sal at the fish house end of palm av. or by boat, off marker 12 ICW.
Good luck and good fishing.

If you can stand the cold the fishing is pretty good. The snook bite got real slow, they'll be looking for some warm water and will be very spooky. Your best bet is Trout, fish the open spots in the grass, not all these holes are holding fish but the ones that do, have real nice fish. Use a live shrimp over a cork, or DOA on a popping cork. Pearl white is working well also. A few reds can be caught on live shrimp as well. Along the edge of the oyster bars with a little deep water on one side, and along the mouth of canals and creeks, especially the ones that have oysters along the edge. Sheepshead are some of the biggest I've caught in years. Live shrimp your best bait, or at low tide go out on the sand bars and dig up sand worms. Too much work!! Go see Sal at the fish house at marker 12 and get live shrimp.
Keep warm! good luck and good fishing.

Trout season opened Jan. first, and some nice trout are being caught in the grass, and along the edge of the oyster bars. Live shrimp is the best bait, or a poppin' cork, is deadly with a DOA shrimp.
The weather has been sooo bad we've been fishing in the canals catching some real nice snook on live shrimp. Sheepshead can also be caught around the docks some real big fish. I like to use a green jig head with a half live shrimp. They love it!!
If you need shrimp, go by the fish house at the end of Palm, or come in off marker 12 ICW. See My Bud Sal, and he'll through some ice in your Piragua.
The fishing is very good if you can get out of the wind. Best bet is to fish the leeward side of the mangroves and the mouth of the canals and creeks. A few nice Reds can be caught using live shrimp, as well as some big Sheepshead. I do best around old docks, and at the corners of the canals. Snook season is closed, however, been catching 24"- 26" fish schooled up in a little deeper water.
We got some good weather this next week, and the catching will get better.
Be safe, good luck and good fishing.
Foul weather has made fishing rough this week. Mackerel are still off Sanibel all the way to Boca Grand. A few nice Flounder are being caught off the beach and oyster bars. Snook season is closed, as well as trout. Red fish are still hanging out off the oyster bars, around sand bars. A blind cave man could catch sheepshead this time of year. Sand bars, oyster bars, docks, even on the beach. Pompano are also off the beach. The weather is going to get better so next week the catching should get much better.
See Ya. Good luck and good fishin'.

The fishing is great,, the Mackerel are chasing bait from Sanibel to Boca Grand pass. Try a spoon with blue on one side. Red fish are along the sand bars, and oyster bars with a little deep water close by. Live shrimp, or live bait working well. Snook are laying low, best bet is deep holes, and the mouth of creeks and canals. Crank baits and live bait working very good. Lots of grouper under the Sanibel bridges.
I've seen big schools of sheepshead all along the flats. Live shrimp best. Look for Mullet, and sting ray activity, you'll not only catch sheepshead, but a nice red.
Good luck and Good Fishin'
Now that the cold weather and wind are gone the fishing has been pretty good. There are some nice Pompano being caught off Sanibel beach, and the Mackerel are off the beach as well as in Pine Island sound. Look for birds working. The Snook are in a little deeper water at the mouth of the canals and creeks. Some good fish can be caught at night around lights. Live bait working best. We caught some nice Reds in Matlacha pass around oyster bars close to deeper water on incoming tide. No big fish, alot of 16"-17" fish.
Sheepshead are in and live shrimp working best. Go see Sal at the Fish house at the end of Palm av. for live shrimp. Trout are catch and release only till Jan. 1.
Good Luck and Good Fishing.

Got a report from Roy and Sal at the fish house at the end of Palm av. St. James City,,, got some Red tide hanging off shore off Sanibel Is. However, this COLD weather with the North North east wind blowing a Gale, has pushed it way far out, and maybe we've dodge a bullet.
You can find some nice Reds in the mouth of the canals and on the oyster bars if you can stay on them. Snook bite slow, mouth of the canals, and creeks, incoming tide.
We'll have a better report next week!
Good luck and Good Fishin'

The fishing this past week has been great. Until the weather changed. N.E. wind has pushed the water out and the temp. down. The mackerel are still around the Sanibel light house, and now all up and down Pine Is. sound. Snook are around the the creeks, canals, and the cuts in the mangroves. Best bait , pin fish, with in coming tide. We got into some real nice Reds up by the power lines in Matlacha pass on in coming tide. There are reports of reds, and snook being caught between Gault Is. York Is. St. James City to Matlacha pass. Some good bait, and pin fish can been caught between picnic is. and B span.
The weather settle down the fishing will be great.
good luck, and good fishing.

The Mackerel are still wall eyed and gobblin' off Sanibel. You can also catch a nice snook off the beach as well. Snook are also at the mouth of most of the canals, best time, incoming tide with live bait. Lots of bait under "C" span. One throw of your net, and you'll have all the bait you'll need. Sheepshead have moved in, best off the flats on sandy bottom. There are still some big tarpon in the rivers, top water, early can be real hot. Red fish are along the oyster bars, and along the mangorves. Live bait is working best. DOA has been real good also.
Good luck and good fishing, see you next week.
