Fort Myers, Sanibel Inshore Fishing

Saturday, January 23. 2010
Mother Nature has delivered the worst Artic freeze that Southwest Florida has ever seen. The Deep Freeze has taken a devastating toll on the Snook, Tarpon, and Bone Fish population. Some estimate we have lost five years of Snook production. Good news warm weather is back and maybe we're on the road to recovery. This Artic blast however,, has not hurt the Seatrout, and Redfish. We caught some real nice trourt, and a few !6" to 19" reds, all on live shrimp. We found the reds around cuts where the in coming tide was washing through. The trout are in the sand holes and around the edges of oyster bars.
Sheepshead are under the docks, and along oyster bars. Live shrimp your best bait. If you need live shrimp, go by and see Sal at the fish house end of palm av. or by boat, off marker 12 ICW.
Good luck and good fishing.

If you can stand the cold the fishing is pretty good. The snook bite got real slow, they'll be looking for some warm water and will be very spooky. Your best bet is Trout, fish the open spots in the grass, not all these holes are holding fish but the ones that do, have real nice fish. Use a live shrimp over a cork, or DOA on a popping cork. Pearl white is working well also. A few reds can be caught on live shrimp as well. Along the edge of the oyster bars with a little deep water on one side, and along the mouth of canals and creeks, especially the ones that have oysters along the edge. Sheepshead are some of the biggest I've caught in years. Live shrimp your best bait, or at low tide go out on the sand bars and dig up sand worms. Too much work!! Go see Sal at the fish house at marker 12 and get live shrimp.
Keep warm! good luck and good fishing.

Orlando and Kissimmee Bass and Crappie Fishing

Saturday, January 9. 2010
Cold! Cold! Cold! This is the worst winter that we have had in many years. The water temp is in the 40's and the air temp as low as 26. But fish have to eat and we are still on the Specks, a few big one and lots of small ones. The bass are taking shinners but you have to be patient they my hit at it serval times before taking the bait. Keep what you can eat and release the rest to fight another day and there will be fish for years to come. Good Luck

Trout season opened Jan. first, and some nice trout are being caught in the grass, and along the edge of the oyster bars. Live shrimp is the best bait, or a poppin' cork, is deadly with a DOA shrimp.
The weather has been sooo bad we've been fishing in the canals catching some real nice snook on live shrimp. Sheepshead can also be caught around the docks some real big fish. I like to use a green jig head with a half live shrimp. They love it!!
If you need shrimp, go by the fish house at the end of Palm, or come in off marker 12 ICW. See My Bud Sal, and he'll through some ice in your Piragua.
Dress warm. Good luck and Good Fishin'!

Bass Fishing Holidays

Friday, January 1. 2010
Before Xmas the fishing was slow cold front after cold front had the bass confused. After Xmas was about the same. But still you could catch them using large shinners or plastics fishing real slow. A lot of the time they would take the bait and then spit it back at you. The specks slowed down to but if you can find the right color jig you could still fill your live well. Now that the holidays are behind us we can start focusing on finding those realy big bass the ones in the double digit range. Good Luck and Good Fishing.

Orlando Bass Charters

Sunday, December 20. 2009
This past week started out ok with the weather in the upper 70s, now today the high was 51. The bass early this week were biting pretty good and the crappie (specks) were still going strong. Still on the bass use large plastic and flukes or wild shinners. For the specks minows and small jigs or hall flys, work the best tipped with minows.

Orlando Bass and Crappie Fishing

Sunday, December 13. 2009
They spraid the hydrilla last week and we now starting to see the results. Most of the hydrilla down lake has died, but on the upper end it is still showing. The water level is up to 55.2 feet above sea level thats due to the rain that we had last week, and they are not dropping the level. So some hydrilla is still there but you can't see it due to the level. But fishing is still great bass are hitting on soft plastic and shinners, the specks (crappie) are still in deep water. Lets go fishing, Good Luck.

Sanibel Fort Myers fishing

Saturday, December 12. 2009
The fishing is very good if you can get out of the wind. Best bet is to fish the leeward side of the mangroves and the mouth of the canals and creeks. A few nice Reds can be caught using live shrimp, as well as some big Sheepshead. I do best around old docks, and at the corners of the canals. Snook season is closed, however, been catching 24"- 26" fish schooled up in a little deeper water.
We got some good weather this next week, and the catching will get better.
Be safe, good luck and good fishing.

Big Lake Tohopekaliga Fishing

Sunday, December 6. 2009
This week the crappie fishing has improved even better. They sprayed the hydrilla this week on Wednesday and Thursday. So now the hydrilla should start dieing out, opening up a lot more places to fish. The bass are still bitting good but the crappie are running great. Still for bass get up along the hydrill line with shiners or plastics. And for the crappie (specks) minnows or jigs tiped with minnows works great. Good Luck

Foul weather has made fishing rough this week. Mackerel are still off Sanibel all the way to Boca Grand. A few nice Flounder are being caught off the beach and oyster bars. Snook season is closed, as well as trout. Red fish are still hanging out off the oyster bars, around sand bars. A blind cave man could catch sheepshead this time of year. Sand bars, oyster bars, docks, even on the beach. Pompano are also off the beach. The weather is going to get better so next week the catching should get much better.
See Ya. Good luck and good fishin'.

Orlando Bass and Speck fishing

Monday, November 30. 2009
This past week the weather has calmed down and the fishing getting better. 3 to 4 lb bass are being caught along the hydrila, and the specks (crappie) are starting to run around marker 26, some real nice specks in the 12 to 16 inch range. Good Luck.

Fort Myers, Sanibel, Boca Grand Inshore Fishing

Monday, November 30. 2009
The fishing is great,, the Mackerel are chasing bait from Sanibel to Boca Grand pass. Try a spoon with blue on one side. Red fish are along the sand bars, and oyster bars with a little deep water close by. Live shrimp, or live bait working well. Snook are laying low, best bet is deep holes, and the mouth of creeks and canals. Crank baits and live bait working very good. Lots of grouper under the Sanibel bridges.
I've seen big schools of sheepshead all along the flats. Live shrimp best. Look for Mullet, and sting ray activity, you'll not only catch sheepshead, but a nice red.
Good luck and Good Fishin'

Kissimmee Bass Fishing

Friday, November 20. 2009
Bass fishing on Big Lake Tohopekaliga this past week has been usual for this time of year. Lots of schoolies mostly on the north end of the lake, and some crappie in front of Mckinson's island. We did have a 10lb 10oz bass wieghed in at the marina. So there are a few big still lurking about you just got to get out there and hunt them up. For artificial baits plastic worms or crank baits works the best.

Now that the cold weather and wind are gone the fishing has been pretty good. There are some nice Pompano being caught off Sanibel beach, and the Mackerel are off the beach as well as in Pine Island sound. Look for birds working. The Snook are in a little deeper water at the mouth of the canals and creeks. Some good fish can be caught at night around lights. Live bait working best. We caught some nice Reds in Matlacha pass around oyster bars close to deeper water on incoming tide. No big fish, alot of 16"-17" fish.
Sheepshead are in and live shrimp working best. Go see Sal at the Fish house at the end of Palm av. for live shrimp. Trout are catch and release only till Jan. 1.
Good Luck and Good Fishing.
